Tree Fungus Throughout the Neighborhood

As some of you have noticed, our trees in the common area have looked a little sad and weathered. Jessica with CMA reached out to Lawn Groomers who maintains our common areas for some insight. Please see below-

Many Maple trees and Ash trees get leaf fungus every year. You can almost always find some sort of fungus on any tree in the Spring-Summer due to the wet weather and hot days. All Fungus (spores) travel through the air, rain drops or will over winter on old leaves and wood. Majority of these are cosmetic problems and just cause the tree to drop their leaves early and do not cause major damage to the trees. Lawn Groomers do not recommend treating all the trees in Springhurst with a Fungicide because it would be very expensive and in our opinion not worth it for the trees that are there. If these were large mature trees and they had major Fungus issues then we would recommend treating them.

The main issues with the trees in Springhurst is a combination of poor soil, lack of water and the amount of Sunscald damage that occurred in the first couple years after they were planted. The Sunscald opens up the bark of the tree and creates a wound on the side of the tree. This makes the trees more susceptible to insect and disease damage.
